  1. Poison or toxin is any chemical substance 
  2. that, when introduced into or applied to the 
  3. body, is capable of injuring health or 
  4. destroying life. The liver removes some 
  5. poisons from the blood. The majority of 
  6. poisons may be divided into corrosives, such 
  7. as sulphuric, nitric, and hydrochloric acids.
  8. Corrosives all burn and destroy the parts of 
  9. the body with which they come into contact. 
  10. Irritants have an irritating effect on the 
  11. stomach and bowels. Narcotics affect the 
  12. brainstem and spinal cord, inducing a stupor, 
  13. and narcotico-irritants can cause intense 
  14. irritations and finally act as narcotics.
